Stop the Closure of Coleg Sir Amman

Llandybie Liberal Democrat Community Councillor Cllr. Julian Tandy in whose area the campus is actually situated said. "Further to the announcement by the Welsh Labour Education Minster on the closure and his response to questions in the Senedd, that this is a decision made by Trinity St Davids who own the land and supported by the Plaid Cymru Administration in Carmarthenshire. I am shocked and saddened that the last remaining tertiary college in the Amman Valley is to be completely closed.

The campus on the revamped Pibwrlwyd campus in Carmarthen will be 18 miles away from Dyffryn Aman the largest Secondary school in Carmarthenshire.

The community will lose a valuable resource, the local shops and community will lose what little footfall it has, nearly 100 years of education shut at a commercial whim removing the vital local courses relevant to the construction industry and care work. What sort of message does that send to students and residents of the Amman valley other than; the powers in charge at Carmarthenshire County Hall and Cardiff do not care about us and our area."

Nick Beckett, Gorslas Community Councillor and Liberal Democrat candidate for the Carmarthen constituency, agrees that it is disappointing to lose such an important resource for Ammanford and the surrounding area. "It is a pity the Ammanford campus apparently can’t be the one to benefit from the promised Mutual Investment Model and be brought up to standard.

However, investment in the education infrastructure in the county is welcome but real thought must be given to issues around accessibility, particularly public transport. Bus services in the county are being reduced due to cost and the impact of the 20 mile per hour limits and they will be crucial for learners to access college. We urge the Plaid Cymru administration in County Hall to urgently carry out an impact assessment and consider how to mitigate any negative outcomes."

Bydd y gymuned yn colli adnodd gwerthfawr, bydd y siopau a'r gymuned leol yn llacio cyn lleied o ymwelwyr sydd ganddi, bron i 100 mlynedd o addysg ar gau ar chwim fasnachol gan ddileu'r cyrsiau lleol hanfodol sy'n berthnasol i'r diwydiant adeiladu a gwaith gofal.  

Pa fath o neges mae hynny a anfonwyd at fyfyrwyr a thrigolion Dyffryn Aman ac eithrio'r pwerau sydd wrth y llyw yn Neuadd y Sir Caerfyrddin a Chaerdydd ddim yn poeni amdanom ni a'n hardal."
